Denis Bestwick, Pippet Publishing of Sevenoaks, approached me with a an idea of illustrating a book he was going to publish of short stories.Of course this was a lovely assignment. They are good, intriguing stories and I had to do quite a bit of internet research for some of them as there were specific references to certain places. This made it all the more interesting from my point of view, as I was discovering things that I had not had experience or knowledge of. His book should be ready, printed, published, and on sale at the end of June. Likewise a book by Jan Evans, Dernier Publishing, Tonbridge, "Mystery in the Snow", for which I did the cover illustration, is a story meant for young people of around 8 - 12 years old. A mystery solved by a small group of friends. This should be available this month too.
This is my new blogspot to show some of my students/members recent paintings.Everyone is individual and I like to help them to find their own main source of interest, and I then help them with the practicalities of creating paintings that they will be happy with.Jack is well into his mid nineties and is doing some really lovely paintings of his favourite subjects - boats. Some of my ladies enjoy flower painting. When Sally first said she would like to paint the Wisteria on the wall of her house, my heart sank - it seemed such a intricate subject and I knew it would take some time. However Sally went ahead and, with a little help, patiently kept carefully painting, and in the end the last area she did was amazing - quite beautiful. Then she put a few more finishing touches to the painting over all, and the result you can see on the blog. It was a real learning curve for all of us.There is an invitation for questions or comments on the blog so do get in touch or make your comment.Demonstrations I have done recently have been the presentation of the new Atelier Interactive Acrylics. These I am using more now as they can have an interesting mix of watercolour painting and oil painting. There are many possibilities. Not being in this country very long we still have a lot to discover in the ways we can use them. They are light fast too, so any paintings done with them will have a lasting value. Important if used for a commission and just keeping in the family for generations.
During the last series of sessions I demonstrated the new Atelier Interactive Acrylics, and we carried on with drawing and watercolour projects as well as individual inspirations. The next series will concentrate more on landscape and natural forms, if possible - weather permitting we will have the opportunity to work outside for those who would like to. There is no obligation to do this, the hall is booked for those prefering to stay inside. Refreshments will be on hand for a break whenever you would like it. Recently I completed the cover for Jan Evans new book for young teenagers "Mystery in the Snow", you can see more details soon on her website at "www.dernierpublishing.com".At the moment I am illustrating a book of short stories by another local writer and details of this will be posted as soon as possible.
Every artist is different and therefore the way of conceiving and executing a painting or an idea will be unique. Likewise the teaching of anything other than basic techniques, and colour understanding, will reflect this. I have undertaken illustrations in a representational way for many people. It can be portraits and designs for personal needs, i.e. wedding invitations or a painting from the wedding photographs, to an acrylic painting on canvas to commemorate a particular scene or a memorable
